Patty M’s musical roots are classical: violin lessons starting in the third grade. She learned acoustic guitar basics from a childhood friend who took lessons and then taught Patty everything she knew!
Later, Patty M discovered her voice and sang in diverse choral groups, including a brief stint in an opera company. But once she began her high-powered STEM career, music took a backseat for many years.
In 2011, Patty M moved from the northeast US to Western North Carolina where she discovered a trove of amazing local musicians. Leaving her STEM career behind, she became a founding member (in 2014) of the acoustic trio called Sorella Jack. A short time later, she also started doing solo singer-songwriter gigs.
Patty M plays both covers and original songs. Because she plays a wide range of styles, it’s hard to place her in a particular category. When seen with her acoustic guitar and ukulele, one is tempted to call her a “folk” artist, but that one designation doesn’t encompass the rock, pop, blues and even American Songbook influences in her songs. Whatever the category, Patty M’s music is: eclectic, acoustic, fun!
